I've been curious about this for a while, so I thought I'd reach out to you guys and see if anyone has any advice to offer.
I'm currently working on a web series for a small production company. I signed a Work-for-Hire Agreement, so I know they're the owners of all the characters and artwork I designed and animated. Blerg. It's a very low budget, but I took on the project because it seemed cool, I liked the script and the team, yada yada yada.
It turns out that they're going to pitch the series to several networks when it's finished. If it gets picked up, I'd be excited but after talking with some friends about it, I wonder if there is a way to renegotiate the contract to include royalties for merchandising, part ownership or something like that.
Maybe there's nothing I can do and should just chalk it up to a lesson learned. This the first time I've worked on something like this so I'd appreciate any advice on the best way to go about it. Thanks!
