Every now and then, I see posts on Twitter from mograph folks, somewhere in the vein of: "There are 5 styles of mograph right now... that one Cel look with a black triangle shadow, tiny heads, long limbs..." etc etc, listing off the motion design trends we see all over the place. I think there was a #mochat discussion about it right after the Motion Awards were given.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I also see that a lot of those trends catch people's eyes and emotions - hence they win Motion Awards.
I mean, I get to some degree that we shouldn't just keep reproducing the same exact thing every time, and I get tired of seeing the tiny head, huge hand characters myself. But a lot of people still freakin' love that stuff. So when / how does a trend become a trope, and can / should they be avoided? What are your thoughts?
