Hey guys, I saw this tweet from Daniel: https://twitter.com/somethingsavage/status/926253134481100800
Recently I was thinking about something similar, because I thought it was strange how we save video's for instragram, Gifs for tumblr and so on.
I also learned that when you upload a Gif on Twitter the file gets converted to mp4 because it's a lot smaller in file size. Also Twitter does this thing where it doubles the last frame, which is pretty annoying.
So this made me think that Gif will probably die out since the compression and file size is super non efficient. And also because Twitter and Instagram both only share video.
What do you think? Is there a way to have one file format for looping video's and images? Can we ever expect standard image dimensions for social media? Of course this is something that will change all the time, but I think it's a complete mess right now.
