A really long time ago I started an exquisite corpse project together with a bunch of people from the mixed.parts community. To be more precise, some time around august last year.
Around 30 people signed up to participate and throughout the 8 months of going down the list, 18 people came out the other end. It’s been a real pleasure crossing paths with these amazing animators and designers and the result is such a cool mix of different styles and people. Not to mention the super job The Chicken did with the sound.
The animation community never stops amazing me, it’s so cool that animators, illustrators and sound designers can join forces and create stuff just for the fun of it. It’s really inspiring to see how much effort you all put in to this!
I’ve learned a few things about being on the other end of a project, having the role of coordinating everything and putting it together, I’ve realised the importance of hyper communicating and being clear and structured. All in all i think the project went really well tough it took way longer than i anticipated. I’ve also learned a lot about e-mail templating and automation, haha.
It hasn’t been too much work really, over the course of these 8 months I’ve put maybe 60 hours of work in to this. Definitely worth it, but I probably won’t do it this way again. Having this thing in the back of my mind for 8 months has actually been a little taxing.
Having 60 seconds of animation to feast your eyeballs at is great, but I’ve also asked everyone to upload their project files so that we can all dissect them and maybe learn a few new tricks. You’ll find them all here:
Now all that remains is to thank everyone who participated, it’s been a blast!
