Hey all, first time posting and I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on interesting animation programs outside of the expected places like CalArts, etc. Have you seen any recent student work that's inspired you?
A couple of friends are studying at La Poudrière (http://www.poudriere.eu/) and there's some really interesting work coming out of there.
I'm also in the core team at Chitrakatha : International Student Animation festival here in India (http://nid.edu/chitrakatha/) - and we have seen some crazy entries over the years from schools like
FILM ACADEMY BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG (https://www.filmakademie.de/en/studium/course-catalogue/animation/general-information/information/)
Lucerne School of Art and Design (https://www.hslu.ch/en/lucerne-school-of-art-and-design/)
and Beijing Film Academy.
Apart from the usual RCA, CalArts, etc
I haven't seen RISD mentioned but some of my favorite student work has come out of that school — they have a robust experimental program.
Gobelins is whole new level of animation. I'll always feel bad seeing that :D
Ditto Gobelins - the student work out of there is incredible
Here is what just won the Student Category for the Motion Awards
AND ALSO - festivals with student sections. That's where a lot of gold can be found :)
There's great students everywhere at all sorts of schools! If you'd like to see more great student work, and engage with emerging talents, I'm sure local schools would be happy to hear from industry professionals taking an interest in their program wherever you are based!
aaand as an aside: RMIT, VCA, UTS in Australia have some solid animation programs.
SCAD, SVA, Ringling, Calarts, RCA, School of Motion, Mograph Mentor.
Mograph Mentor and School of Motion both have built programs that teach students at a high level.
SVA, Ringling, Pratt, all churn out some talented students.
The Royal College of Art and the NFTS Animation programmes back in England are pretty rad (though I'm heavily biased towards the former)
Any time I see student work from Gobelins, I'm usually amazed
