Excellent article detailing the evolving historical relevancy and nature of TV titles.
On an unrelated note I really love how Verge used various media devices to showcase the titles. They do a great job blending journalism, illustration, and motion (and sometimes interaction) on their web platform.
Great article that cuts across a wide swath of the industry in reaching out for opinions — the biggest part they missed is how much of a vanity project title sequences are for showrunners. Often film directors fight for these things for their movies, and as showrunners and creators stock rise in the TV/streaming world, they will be the same on that canvas.
Title sequences aren't going anywhere.
