I have been working on an hourly basis for many years as an art director/designer/illustrator. Moving from "day rate" to hourly rate has helped me to invoice my clients more precisely and avoid the unpaid overtime that falls under day rate.
Recently I have been animating (again), my designs using After Effects. One current project involves rendering comps that takes up to several hours, and about 150GB of uploading to my Dropbox. Some days it's been uploading for 12 hours overnight. Hap-Q files, 5096x812 pixels...
I am a little lost on how to invoice my client on rendering time and uploading.
On top of that I am staying around when this is happening, checking the files, checking that AE hasn't been crashing, etc. It's not sitting front of the computer, but it's still work and staying in the house.
How do you calculate and invoice yours?
