The trend in the motion design community is to extoll the virtues of freelance. As someone who is breaking more and more into freelance work I struggle to see the appeal. If you love freelance, why do you? If you don't, do you share my reasons for not being enamored with it? I feel alone in my perspective but this is the internet so I know I'm not.
My issue with freelance is that projects come out of nowhere. I don't feel like I can plan my life or even my next day because I might get a freelance job that needs me to sprint to a finish line or I'm trying to motivate myself to work on a personal project that I started 6 months ago and have spent a half day working on it every other week since.
Getting straight answers out of people about how much work they have for me rarely seems to go anywhere and I've been enrolled in 3 different health care providers in the last 18 months. Not having a consistent source of adhd meds combined with not having a consistent work schedule is not great for someone with adhd. I find myself falling into bad lifestyle habits like staying up too late and eating poorly.
Are these issues other folks don't run into? Is having a 9 to 5 really so bad that these issues are worth the trade off?
