I recently got notified that one of my shorts showed up in the latest qualifying stage of the Oscars’ voting process — but with a different title and entirely credited to someone else. Long story short: somebody took my animated short from 2016, changed the title and credits and did everything to get the film qualified for the Oscars. Yeah, I know, pretty weird!
I’ve been in contact with the Academy, and also with the theatre the film had it’s qualifying run at. This illegal/modified version of my animation also ran at the LA Shorts Film Festival. And I’ve sent them 3 mails urging them to get back to me… but unfortunately they never did. It’s strange that a festival has no interest whatsoever in sorting something like this out — after they've been notified that they were screening a stolen film at their festival last year.
Has any of you ever had an issue like this before? And has anyone a contact at the LA Shorts Film Festival I could maybe reach out to directly? Cheers!
