How do you all handle down time between phases during jobs? For example, say a client wants to book you on a project with an 8-week schedule, but in reality, it's something like (1) one week on for style frames, (2) one week off for feedback, (3) one week on for boards and animatic, (4) one week off for feedback, (5) two weeks on for animation, (6) one week off for feedback, (7) one week for changes and delivery.
That's an 8-week schedule, but it's really 5 weeks booked with 3 weeks off. This isn't usually normal for me-- I find I'm usually booked linearly with shorter down time between phases where I can help the studio with other projects, but a recent slew of inquiries have come in with this kind of sporadic structure.
Do you guys get projects like this often? And if so, do you just sort of eat the down time? Or try and find super short jobs in between? Try to negotiate the schedule to be more linear? Say hell no? Not really sure how to proceed.
