I've heard pros and cons to this. Certain music can be distracting, but other days it gets me energized. What are you listening to while you work?
That meant to say afrobeats* not acrobats lol. Thank you!
woooah. this is good stuff
lol I still believe acrobats is not the best idea but I have a mixture of modern jazz and whatnot playlists here https://soundcloud.com/theinktrovert/sets ?
yes, pass along some afrobeats playlists
He´s pretty cool, for some reason Fourtet kinda does something to my brain too while working.
Always, especially when i’m editing lol. But when writing, I like to listen to jazz (old and new) or film soundtracks. I do tend to get distracted by Afrobeats if anyone else knows what that is, so I wouldn’t suggest that whilst drawing/animating otherwise your mind may get very distracted and start to dance. Happy to link some playlists if people are looking for some new sounds!
You seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEdcOR179_Q
When illustrating, podcasts: Harmontown, Dana Gould Hour, MBMBAM, Oh No Ross and Carrie.
When animating, music: my Soundcloud stream, CurrentCondition, Dublab, Bandcamp
Thanks, Adam. I dunno! But I love regular hip-hop, I just can't work with it on cuz I get too drawn into the lyrics.
so good. why is it that lo fi hip hop is the thing right now? it's kind of funny because it's not like a Top 40, type of thing. it's all on the internet. i feel like tons of creative types listen to it. it's just interesting how it's trending and it's totally not a commercial type thing.
Great discussion. If I have to think I listen to instrumentals. I like lo fi hip hop stuff but sometimes I need something faster to keep me in a rhythm. Made a playlist, check it out!
Music for Doing Creative Work:
Great list, thanks man. Saw K in concert this weekend it was great.
Have you checked out Araab Muzik? Love his shit for getting things done.
Most of times i listened to ASMR sounds. Sometimes it's very calming and gained my focus. But after a while, it kinda made me dozed off sometimes lol
its just a live stream on youtube that plays relaxing hiphop beats. forget how it became a meme, but i do genuinely enjoy listening to it.
Someone please explain wtf “lofi hip hop beats” are to me. It’s been mentioned at least a couple of times and I am wishing I could attach a meme of some sort of confused faced person to capture my utter cluelessness on the matter.
ohh man, im all for that simpsonwave radio on youtube!
Yes! reverberationradio.com is my favorite choice, excellent playlists.
In general I will listen to music once I get to the stage of work that is more repetitive, but even then - if it's on headphones - I can really only listen in one ear. I love music playing out loud in the studio though, that's completely different.
Totally also School of Motion and thefutur.
there's a healthy amount of mograph podcasts out there. i used to listen to ash thorp's "collective podcast". he's pretty funny and southern californian
i think that counts as multi-tasking
i think sometimes i just leave my headphones in with nothing playing lol
I listen to a lot of instrumental or 'chill' stuff. Spotify has some excellent work playlists, like To Do List, Raw Beats, Lush Lofi, Lofi House, Chillmatic, Microtherapy, and Dreamy Vibes... all good stuff to work to!
If I am in the mood I'll listen to podcasts like Stuff You Should Know and other ones where you can kinda tune in and out and not miss much. I avoid heavily produced ones.
I only whistle while I work.
Absolutely, the music I listen to depends on the work I'm doing. I mostly prefer to listen to instrumental music, preferably a really long album or playlist where I don't have to think about searching for anything new regularly. Basically, something I can zone out to, switch off from the world and focus on my work. In some cases, even just having headphones on with no music works just as well!
Lately, I've been listening to:
- Explosions in the sky
- Three Trapped Tigers
- Magic Sword
- Kamasi Washington
- Gogo Penguin
and some playlists on Spotify: 'Deep focus' and 'Music for Concentration' which are very piano, ethereal based.
Either lofi hip hop radio beats or a videogame soundtrack, anything with minimal lyrics that lasts for several hours so I don't need to keep skipping songs or finding something else to play :)
I´ll share some of my favs:
and of course Kendrick Lamar
Always. Lots of music, interspersed with podcasts and audiobooks. Or I just listen to air traffic control from the nearby airport.
i like to put my headphones on, get distracted by something else before i pick some music and just kinda sit there with my headphones on for awhile...
Big ole krautrock/kosmiche playlist - Neu!, Cluster, Harmonia, Eno collaborations. Repetetive, mostly instrumental, nice feeling of forward motion.
Animalators is my favorite right now. Keeps me motivated to keep up that MoGraph grind lifestyle haha
i'm there too. chilled cow.
lo fi hip hop radio beats to relax and animate to
It depends on the work for me. If I'm making assets or doing basic animation I listen to music and podcast. But if I'm storyboarding, timing audio, or a detailed animation I like to have the noise very low.
if by listening to music you mean having a rocky marathon on, than yes.
