Anyone know if Set Matte works reliably w/ the Bodymovin + Lottie workflow? I can't seem to find a clear answer from both Lottie's & Bodymovin's Github site. Thanks!
I found this a while ago but never really tried it out http://cyclops.weareinstrument.com/ sounds similar to what you are talking about
Interested to see what happens
Wooo Nice to meet you Matt Dune!
No worries man, hope it helps!
Thanks for this - About to watch!
Thanks for sharing this! Never heard of Bodymovin or Hungry Sandwich Club, but both seem to be pretty cool! haha
I put together a small tutorial that will help anyone who is struggling to get Bodymovin to work:
I hope this helps!
Yeah they did a talk here in Bristol and mentioned it, I was blown away too ha!
Whoah that was done with Bodymovin? I did not know that
Check out my comment above ☝️
Glad you posted this! I use bodymovin almost everyday and I'm actually working with an iOS and an android engineer to make a library that takes the JSON files that Bodymovin exports and rebuilds the vector animations on the two native platforms. Once we release it i'll definitely post it here on MP! ✌️
I used it recently on a small project at work – it works best with AE shapes and has a few other limitations but I'm excited for it's future. Animade has done some magical things with it.
I was hoping to use this on a recent tiny job. Ended up just sending GIF files instead, so I never output anything. And I'm missing something in my tests with it – I can't figure out how to see what I've rendered at all. I see the html file it can write, And I see a json file. Opening the html in a browser does nothing though. So I hope someone writes a tutorial showing how to use this for AE animators. (My brain also breaks when I see Github.)
I spent 6 years working in games development at the start of my career and a lot of what I built was using SVG and XML for animation.
At first I wrote it all by hand, which was a pain in the ass, but then the developers I worked for wrote an AE script (just because I knew After Effects) that would export SVG files and XML key frame data straight from AE comps. Unfortunately it only really worked with PNG textures, so wasn't vector based, but I'm sure there would be a way to make it work with Shape layers too...
I'm referring to mobile platforms more specifically.
this is a bigger problem with certain platforms.
Good and bad that it lives in a place. Can't easily share, but can't lift.
I believe it can do bitmap but I haven't gotten that deep with it. I see a lot of progress being made in the near future toward vector becoming less smooth too. Procedural stuff that can run on site. too smart for me too.
I used this on a VERY simple job about a month ago. It did what I needed but there were some caveats. For example, I had expressions that referenced a layer that was turned off, and until I turned it back on (at zero opacity), I couldnt get anything to output. I contacted the developer, Hernan, just to say thanks for the tool, though we got talking about expressions and he seemed really open and active on it. I really like what it can do.
If only there was more wide spread platform support for this. If you know what I mean...
This is interesting. Love the switch on the blender.
I like that you can't just drag it off the site like a gif too, so no one can reuse it without permission.
This only works for vector right? Thats a huge bummer. Whenever I open github my brain explodes.
