A wayward man wrestled with his past, a traveler returned to her childhood haunt, and a pop star decried the harsh realities of womanhood. These stories, and so many more, made last August's screening unforgettable. Enjoying this recap of Best of Fest in competition films from Screening 36.
I don't think it's about revenue so much as it is about viewer adoption. A short can gather the attention of early adopters and content curators on the festival circuit. When it is finally released on the internet, the launch will have the benefit of those first impressions - which can lead to more press coverage.
When I try to look at some of these online you see only the trailer, and for a six minute film. I wonder what the thinking is on this? Is there really a market for a six minute independent animation that is so robust that putting the entire film on Vimeo will endanger that? And if so, who is paying for an independent six minute film and where are they showing it to make their money back?
I have no idea. Just curious.
